As the new Lakeview Hospital opened in September 1976, SDCH officially closed to undergo major remodeling in order to reopen as a sub-acute specialty care facility. Throughout the final stages of Lakeview’s construction in 1975-76, a major transfer took place as equipment, records, medications, staff and patients moved from SDCH to the new acute care hospital.
